About Clearway Contracting
Clearway Contracting was started in 2006 as an arm of the 20 year old L&S Doyle
Pty Ltd company. The company is based at Surges Bay in southern Tasmania and is located to provide good accessibility to the Huon Valley and in particular the Southern Forests.
L& S Doyle Pty Ltd was established in 1985 when Lindsay Doyle (a qualified motor mechanic) purchased a backhoe and truck and commenced weekend earth moving projects. Lindsay saw a need for a company that could do excavations all year round. At the time there were no large excavators in the Huon. People previously had to make do with backhoes on tractors to accomplish excavations.
At the time Lindsay was a mechanic at Goodyear Tyres in Huonville. The work
became so frequent that he went into it full time after a couple of months ! Lindsay purchased a 4.5 tonne Mitsubishi excavator and commenced business.
Lindsay was a sole operator (with support from Sally !) for the first 8 years.
he reputation of the high level of service offered soon became such that the activity became a full time job and the initial items of plant were replaced with a modern tracked excavator.
The business quickly grew to the stage where the initial partnership became a registered private Company in 1989.
L&S Doyle progressively acquired more machinery and reopened the Scotts Road quarry in 1996.
The quarry had been closed but Lindsay saw a way of value adding to the business by having the metal to make the roads he was excavating.
The activities of the business have continued to expand and today the Company employs eight people and has an annual turn over in excess of $1M.
The Company is registered as GST compliant and meets all Government requirements in terms of GST reporting including the regular lodgement of Business Activity Statements.
Insurance
L& S Doyle Pty Ltd carry a full range of comprehensive insurance cover.
This cover includes the following:
- Public Liability cover of an amount of $10M
- Full comprehensive cover for all plant items and other equipment.
Safety Management System
The Company maintains a fully integrated Safety Management System.
This system contains copies of the Company policies and procedures and all necessary information on safe operating practices for employees and sub contractors.
Communications
The Company has excellent communication systems in place.
All items of the plant fleet have two way radio communication to enable contact with each other, sub contractors working for the Company and other organisations (eg Forestry Tasmania).
OUR PEOPLE
The Company currently employs seven staff. Those employed are multi skilled and operate a range of plant and equipment.
All employees have undergone a thorough induction to the Company and are fully aware of the Company’s Safety Management System.
Employees wear a Company uniform, are easily recognisable and have current issues of personal protective clothing.

- Excavator Operator Certificates
- Loader Operators Certificates
- First Aid
- Fork Truck Licence
- Traffic Control and Management Accreditation (BCC30328A Traffic Control and BCC1014A Control Construction Traffic)
There are also a number of sub contractors engaged by the Company.
These operators have current contracts with the Company, which require them to maintain relevant insurance coverage and comply with the Principals Safety Management System.
