Hazard Reduction
Hazards reduction takes many forms.
Clearway Contracting can provide boundary easements for fencing and power lines, fire breaks.
The business is Aurora licenced to clear undergrowth from beneath both public and power lines.
Any flammable undergrowth can be reduced into a mulch similar to pine bark after our hazard reduction team have gone through an area.
The machinery we currently use to clear hazards is a specialised piece of machinery.
A Caterpillar skid steer is used with an FAE mulching unit attached.
First the machine acts like a mower making as many as 5 passes over a section of undergrowth until the brush is mulched completely into a ground cover.
We also use a 12 tonne Komatsu excavator with a FAE mulching unit attached.
This is used for grabbing small trees and saplings and progressively grinding them to the ground into a pile of mulch.
The hazard reduction arm (FAE mulching unit) can clear areas of undergrowth up to 200mm in diameter which is roughly the size of the average mans thigh measurement.
